Mildew stains sometimes appear on fabrics.
Especially on the clothes that you put in boxes before the beautiful season...
...and that you store in a cellar or any other humid place.
How do you remove those mold stains from your fabrics? No need to throw them away or use the dry cleaners!
Here are 7 effective tips for removing mold stains:
As always, bicarbonate can save us, on this one;) :
- Mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda with 10 cl of water.
- Dab stains with a clean sponge or soft cloth soaked in this mixture.
- Wash clothes normally.
This trick is perfect on recent stains.
- Rub the stain directly with Marseille soap.
- Machine wash normally.
Again, if the stain is recent, it leaves on the first try.
Combine it with baking soda and lemon, for more resistant stains:
- Mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda with 25 cl of white vinegar.
- Add the juice of 1 lemon.
- Spray this mixture with a clean sprayer or soak the stain with a soft cloth.
- Put the stained laundry to dry preferably in the sun.
- Wash it as usual.
Borax powder, you know?
It is a very effective powder soap on mold stains.
- Mix 1 part borax powder with 2 parts hot water.
- Pat the stain with a clean sponge or cloth.
- Leave to dry.
- Machine wash.

Obviously, this trick only works on non-fragile white fabric.
- Soak a sponge in bleach.
- Rub directly on the stain.
- Wash normally.
If you have a colored linen, but in cotton or non-fragile fabric, you can dilute the bleach in 1 liter of hot water. Try on a hidden piece, you never know, it may discolor.
And keep in mind that bleach is toxic to the environment.
On your colored fabrics, it will be less "dangerous" than bleach.
- Spray the hydrogen peroxide on the stain.
- Wash normally.
Caution:use hydrogen peroxide diluted to 3%.
This product is the most effective on this type of stain. Provided that your laundry is not too fragile.
This product is dangerous, so use gloves.
- Dilute a little ammonia in water.
- Pat with a sponge or clean cloth until the stain disappears.
If your stains are large, you can spray diluted ammonia directly on the garment. You then wipe off the excess with a sponge before washing the laundry.
Follow the instructions on your ammonia bottle carefully.
There you go, the mold stains on your fabrics are all gone :-)
