1. Place ice cubes in front of a window

Few people know that the suffocating feeling of heat is not due to heat, but to humidity .

Pour ice cubes or ice water onto a tray, then set the tray in front of an open window in a room in the house where there is air circulation.

The principle is simple, but extremely effective for cooling a room quickly!

As the freezing water evaporates, the vapors will draw heat from the room and the hot air is naturally expelled outside.

Use a book or newspaper as a fan to expel hot air and cool the room even faster.

2. Turn off all the lights

It may seem insignificant at first glance...

...but light bulbs produce a lot of heat in a room!

Especially incandescent lamps and halogen lamps.

So remember to turn off your lamps as soon as they are not in use.

And make the most of natural sunlight.

If you can, replace your old light bulbs with energy-saving bulbs, such as CFLs or LEDs.

Indeed, these bulbs emit much less heat than the old ones.

In addition, choose bulbs with white light rather than yellow.

3. Close the bedroom door when cooking

If you use the oven or hotplates for cooking, remember to close the bedroom door.

Why?

This prevents hot air from the kitchen from entering the room you are trying to cool.

Otherwise, all the heat from the oven will spill into the chamber...

Also, be aware that in summer it is better to have a good barbecue outside than to cook your food in the oven or on the plate.

If you don't have a barbecue, try to choose dishes that don't need cooking.

What for example ? Well good salads! Here are 12 salad recipes to satisfy even the biggest appetites.

4. Close the rooms you don't use

If you're trying to cool your bedroom, consider closing off other rooms in the house that you don't use.

This prevents cool air from spilling into rooms where you don't spend time.

That way the fresh air stays in the rooms where you spend your time in the house.

5. Turn on the VMC in the bathroom

You don't have air conditioning or a fan, but maybe you have a VMC?

If so, turn on the VMC in your bathroom and in the kitchen too.

At the same time, open the door to the room you want to refresh.

Thus, the VMC will also be used to expel the hot air from your home.

6. Turn off all electronic devices

Electronic devices and gadgets also produce heat without you knowing it...

This is the case with TVs, boxes, consoles and any other device that has a transformer that emits heat.

So to cool a room, also remember to turn them off!

Before sleeping, take a walk around the house and completely turn off all the lights you see.

Turn them off when not in use, especially at night to enjoy the coolness.

7. Sleep as low as possible

Did you know that heat tends to rise in a room?

Concretely, this means that it is cooler at floor level than at ceiling level.

Take advantage of this phenomenon in the evening to fall asleep more easily.

To do this, simply put your mattress on the floor.

8. Hang a wet sheet on the window

Wet a sheet with cool water, wring it out and hang it over an open window.

Or even better, use the Egyptian way to sleep cool!

How? 'Or' What ? By using this damp sheet directly as a cooling blanket in your bed.

Instant refreshing effect guaranteed! Check out the trick here.

9. Make a draft at night

Consider using the cool of the night to cool the whole house.

During the day, it is best to close the shutters to prevent the heat from entering.

But as soon as the heat drops, open the door and windows to create a draft and expel the hot air from your home.

You will see a big difference in temperature quickly.

10. Keep the heat out

As soon as it starts to get hot outside, close all your shutters and windows.

The ideal is to close them before as temperatures begin to rise.

Indeed, few people know that keeping the windows open during the day does not bring in fresh air.

On the contrary, hot always goes to cold .

Thus, if the outside temperatures are higher, the warm air enters through the window and the room is even warmer hot.

11. Avoid using the washing machine

When it is hot in the house, avoid using household appliances.

This includes washing machine, dryer, hair dryer and iron.

All of these appliances and more produce heat.

12. Take cold showers

As a general rule, avoid using hot water in the bathroom.

Indeed, hot water produces vapours, which increases the humidity level and the suffocating feeling of heat.

It is best to take the coldest shower possible before going to bed to lower your body temperature.

Result

There you go, you have now cooled your house, without connecting the air conditioning or the fan :-)

Quick, easy and efficient, right?

I tested these tricks and I can tell you that it allowed me to lower the temperature by at least 2 or 3 degrees at home!

I was finally able to sleep comfortably cool even during periods of great heat.

Additional tips

To fight against the heat in the long term, know that there are other effective tips:

1. Attach awnings over the windows most exposed to the sun.

2. Optimize the insulation of your home.

3. Install heat-resistant solar films on your windows. These reflective films reject a very large part of the solar energy. Lay the reflective side out for east-facing windows. Conversely, lay the reflective side inward for those facing west and south.

4. Change the color of the facade of your house. A light color reflects the sun's rays, while a dark color absorbs solar heat.

5. Do you share your bed with someone? Better to sleep alone to facilitate the circulation of fresh air.
