10 Things Cats Absolutely Don't Like

Do you have a cat at home? Note:These are 10 things cats absolutely don't like. Of course this differs per cat, but in general you should not do these things with your cat or someone else's cat.

Cats a popular pet

In the Netherlands, 3.8 million households have a pet. In total, this accounts for approximately 27.3 million companion animals. About ¼ of these have a pet cat. Not surprising, because cats are very easy pets with generally a high cuddly content. Most people take for granted that cats are often stubborn and have staff. Although most people think they know their cat, there are some things you might not know. Things your cat hates.

10 Things Cats Absolutely Don't Like

Do you also have a cat that follows you everywhere, even to the toilet? Or does your cat run away when you put on a new perfume? Then read on quickly, because this behavior is easy to explain.

1. Cats don't like to be stared at

To be fair:here in the house it sometimes happens that one of the children stares at our cat for a long time. However, our cat is crazy as a door and at some point just looks away or walks away. But for most cats, they don't like to be stared at.

Not surprising when you consider that staring at a cat is synonymous with being ready for a fight. Before two cats literally fly into each other's fur, they will first look each other in the eye. That way they get ready to fight. If you do the same with your cat, he or she will feel threatened. This can manifest itself in fear or in the worst case, pulling the cat out.

2. Noise and loud noises, cats hate that

If there's one thing cats really dislike, it's loud noises and noise. You only have to turn on the vacuum cleaner or, as I regularly do, the mixer, the cat doesn't know how quickly to get away. If there is no way to escape from the room, the safest place is under a table, chair, sofa or bed. That noise doesn't even have to be that loud for you. It is enough if the TV is too loud (also depends on the movie you are watching) or if you drop something or have words with your partner. It quickly becomes too noisy for your cat.

3. Changing the routine

If there's one pet that benefits from a regular routine, it's a cat. Cats have a kind of built-in clock and that ensures peace in their lives. So if you think you want to sleep in and feed your cat later, there is a good chance that your cat will wake you up.

Incidentally, a cat can become quite upset by both large and small changes. A move, a new family member or a change in home furnishings? Even moving the litter box can throw a cat out of her hum. In the worst case scenario, your cat can become so stressed that he or she will pee in the house.

Do you want to make changes? Then do this gradually. Or use natural sedatives for cats. I myself have good experience with the Beaphar No Stress Spot on brand.

4. Cats are sensitive to smells

Cats are extremely sensitive to scents. So don't be surprised if your cat bows to you when you're wearing a new scent. Cats absolutely do not like this. This also applies to a smelly litter box or food smell. Garlic, cinnamon, vinegar and onions are all smells that cats hate. There is a good chance that your cat will flee the room if she smells these scents.

Because cats are so sensitive to smells, you should be careful with the use of incense, essential oils and air fresheners, among other things. Some of these scents are poisonous and can cause your cat to go into a coma or even die!

Reading tip :Use essential oil if you have pets

5. Cats hate water

A small note in advance:this does not apply to all cats. For example, our cat loves water and almost always goes outside when it rains! However, for almost all cats, cats and water do not mix. A few splashes are enough to chase a cat out of the room. Therefore, do not bathe your cat unless it is medically necessary.

Just because cats hate water doesn't mean that they hate their drinking water. Give your cat fresh water every day, because a cat does not like old water. A drinking fountain is even better for your cuddly four-legged friend.

6. Do not wake your cat

Cats come across as lazy animals to us. That is not surprising, because on average a cat sleeps 18 hours a day. That's why cats hate disrupting their sleep. Cats are very cute when they are curled up on the couch and sleeping. That also creates a great attraction. You want to cuddle your cat and take it on your lap. However, it is better if you let the cat enjoy his or her sleep undisturbed. A cat does not like it when sleep is interrupted.

7. Cats don't like boredom

Although cats sleep most of the day, they don't like boredom at all. Is your cat bored? Then you notice that your cat jumps on you in the middle of the night and wants attention. Or your cat starts scratching your furniture. So make sure there are enough distractions and manners so that your cat does not get bored. A cat scratching post, the possibility to go out in the garden or on the balcony and toys are a must for every cat. Of course you can also make cat toys yourself

8. Closed doors that are not for cats

Ever notice that your cat is a little stalker? That could be right! Your cat prefers to follow you closely and that does not stop at the toilet. Cats don't like being left out. They want to go where their owner goes. So when you close the door, you will notice. The cat will meow loudly and in the worst case bang or pull on the door (the nails are perfect for that).

9. Cuddling according to the cat's rules

I admit it straight away:a cat has an incredibly high cuddly content. However, cats only want to be cuddled when it suits them. Picking up and hugging the cat haphazardly is counterproductive in most cases. The cat can even lash out! Does the cat come to you and give you cups? Then your cat wants to be petted and cuddled or he or she indicates that she is hungry. Is your cat sleeping or doing something else? Then let him or her do his or her own thing.

This is also important if you have children. Teach your kids that cats don't always like to be cuddled and picked up.

10. Leave your cat at home during the holidays

A word in advance:there are always exceptions to the rule. You can also see that on Instagram with all the photos of adventure cats. In general, however:a cat is a control freak and likes peace, cleanliness and regularity. You take all this away from your cat if you take him or her on holiday. Leave your cat at home and make sure your cat has staff, I mean, someone who is there for him or her. Let them be aware of your cat's rhythm, so that they can respond optimally.

Exceptions to the rule:stubborn cats like ours

As I mentioned above, there are always exceptions to the rule. We have an exception to the rule here at home. We got our Julian from the shelter when he was very small. We were still living in Suriname at the time. He ended up in a house full of (large) dogs. Strangely enough, he immediately felt at ease. He was not afraid of the dogs and soon he behaved like a dog. This manifested itself in being vigilant (sitting by the window as soon as the dogs started to take a pulse and possibly run outside). He even scratched someone once (he never does) because they wanted a puppy from us, but Julian didn't like the man.

Furthermore, Julian is not afraid of dogs at all and he will jump between two fighting dogs to separate them. The dogs always had all respect for him. He also loves water:when it rains he prefers to go outside. He prefers to drink from the tap and if you make him wet he doesn't care.

On the other hand, he also has typical cat traits as described above. He bangs hard on the door when he hears we're awake or when he thinks he wants to go upstairs. He also runs very fast outside when I am baking or vacuuming again. He loves to cuddle, but if you wake him up, he will let you know with his meowing that he is not happy with it.

Furthermore, he likes rest and does not like changes. He absolutely does not like being bored, he prefers to be kept busy by us all day long. Incidentally, this does not only have to be done with playing, but especially with sitting still, cuddling and lying on your lap.
