Give your home a new look during the Christmas holidays

Are you also a handyman or are you ready at home and are you done with it? We will be busy in the coming years and each time we tackle a new project. At the moment we are still busy pimping the kitchen as I just showed. But our living room also has to rely on it and I hope to be able to make a start with it during the Christmas holidays. I would like to paint the living room in two colors and I must have been looking for inspiration. Because I actually don't want to use two colors by 'just' doing one wall in one color and the other wall in a different color.

Christmas DIYs:painting the living room in two colors… a new look!

So I'm looking for some other ideas for the living room. I would in any case like to have the wall where the television hangs in a dark shade (perhaps black) in order to make the TV disappear in this area. Of course I can also put such a Samsung TV under the Christmas tree that we can use as a painting when the TV is not in use. But our TV is still completely fine, so we'll leave it hanging for a while. Now I've been thinking about Marrakech Walls in black or at least dark, but I'm also doubting a bit because I value light in my house quite a lot. This egg has not yet been laid.

The advantage is that there is now a dark scrap ceiling (brown) which we are going to replace by a normal beautiful white plastered and painted ceiling. That is not a question for me, that ceiling remains white. And I paint that with the same paint that I used in our office. Such a fine wall paint that covers very well and where you also don't see the start. A top tip I can say.

Well, while 'dreaming' about the way I want to paint with two colors in the living room, I also consulted Pinterest. Paneling is back in style at the moment. You can make a paneling of, for example, wood, but also by painting the lower part of the wall in a different color than the upper part. You see a lot like this below:

But a paneling isn't really what I'm looking for. In any case not aware where you normally expect a paneling .

Use two-color paint in your living room

What I really like is dividing the wall into areas that are not at panel height, but simply by using two colors in the living room with painting at a different height. I think Huizedop has done a great job on the left image below. Perhaps the black part could even be a little higher. In any case, I think the way in which the painting falls over both colors is very beautiful.

Sevencouches has also implemented the paneling differently than standard by really pulling a track over the wall. I also think it's beautiful! But what I really like is the surfaces that are painted on part of the wall, as is the case with Stijlinge above. This way you can also paint with two colors in the living room. I would like to work with other colors myself, but I like just painting a part of the wall.

How can we apply two-colors-painting-in-the-living-room

Like I said, I'm not quite there yet. As you can see in the photos below, we still have a lot of work to do in this part of the house. The scrap ceiling will therefore be removed soon. We will also completely remove the fireplace, but the wood stove itself will remain. The tiles behind the fireplace are also gone.

So there are 2 fixed parts on the wall below, the black television and the black wood stove.

I think it would be nice to work with two colors by, for example, continuing the white of the ceiling a la Huized on the top band of the wall and then using black or gray behind the television and the stove. I also want to continue this color around the corner where you can still see the cupboard on the right. Here, loose oak planks will be hung in the niche instead of that cupboard.

I want to continue the color on the left around the corner. Now comes only the challenge. The wall against which the cupboard stands below (with the green arrow) is therefore the wall around which the color must be extended.

The wall with the red arrow will go out soon. Behind it is the door to the hall. Now an old oak door, but there will be a steel look door. So black. Now that black of the door on a black wall seems less attractive to me. So maybe I should go for a gray area after all. Which color on the wall do you think is the best?

The rest of the doors in the pimped kitchen will remain for a while and I have also painted them black with Sigma paint to ensure that they can keep up with the industrial style.

So the idea is to create the style below with the two colors painted in the living room with one of the colors going around the corner. I think that's cool. Of course I can also just stop that right before the door starts, that could also be an option of course. By the way, the cabinet is still being moved, and the piano will be placed in that place.

It should be clear that by painting your living room in two or more colors you can create a completely different feeling of decor. I can't wait to share the end result with you!
