A beanbag or chair in the living room; what does that do to space?

I like space around me. In that respect, we are of course well placed here in our new house with a ground floor area of 180 m² on a plot of land of almost 3000 m². I am absolutely not complaining 😉 . But apart from that, I am always looking for spatial solutions at home. That was also a challenge when looking for an extra seat in the living room. Do I go for a chair or a beanbag? Or a beanbag chair? Or just for a pouf? Choices, choices, choices.

Luckily I like to change and choose, so no problem. Let me take you through my selection process and the changes in our living room.

Beanbag, chair or ottoman extra in the living room?

Apart from the renovation that we will start soon, I have already changed a number of things in the living room to create more space. When you enter from our hall there is a wall with ensuite doors immediately to the left. That wall will soon be removed with the renovation. Behind that wall is an industrial cabinet on one side and the piano on the other.

When the wall is gone, you immediately look into the room when you enter. Didn't seem so handy (spatially speaking) to me that you then look at a higher industrial cupboard, so with that in mind we started changing two weeks ago. Piano, moon painting and cabinet flip. I can tell you… that's not cat piss… carrying a piano. But it worked!

This part is therefore already more spatial. Now you look over the piano to the sitting area in the living room. I love it, because it gives more sense of space and more light. However, I still wanted a seat at the piano because the stove is on the other side of it. Lovely to sit there in a chair or beanbag when the stove is burning, right?

How many-seats do you need at your seating area?

The number of seats is of course entirely dependent on the size of your family. In our case there are four of us, so it is nice if we have four comfortable places. Sofa, beanbag, chair or ottoman; as long as it's comfortable. The seating area of our living room is just not very easy to arrange. This part of our house is somewhat elongated. And with the stove and TV in a permanent place and two windows (front and side), we don't have many options for the layout. The sofa has to go under the window on the side, there is no other place. Any additional seat can therefore only be placed directly next to the piano. And then I come back to the spatial feeling that I want to keep.

Beanbag fits better than chair

I had a chair at this spot before. That is fine in itself, but it is less easy to overlook this. In addition, if you want to watch TV together, the chair has to be moved every time. Possible, but not useful. Only normally I think a beanbag is not always stylish. Some are, by the way, but then you go more towards the beanbag chair instead of a regular beanbag.

I thought. Until I came across this B-Bag. How cool is that? And how nice does it look with my chunky knit pouf? It is a beanbag that is not only very comfortable, but also looks cool. In the cognac color I have chosen - where the fabric has an Old Aged Leather look by the way - I think it looks really nice and stylish in our room. Admittedly, it's still a mix of too many colors at the moment, but we're working on that. After the renovation, when the ceiling has been removed and the new floor has been laid, this beanbag chair will come into its own even better.

In this way I not only create tranquility in terms of colors and style, but also space because the view from the dining room to the living room remains optimal. Another big advantage is that I can easily move this beanbag by its 'handle'. That's how I've pulled him in when we want to watch TV together. There is also a big disadvantage… the beanbag is also a favorite with our cats 😉 , so I have to share it.
