15 x crafts for Christmas to get your house in the Christmas spirit

Crafting for Christmas to get your home even more in the Christmas spirit? This year I am looking for inspiration to craft fun things for Christmas. In the weekends Lotte and I spend time together at the large dining table. The surprises are now finished and so we will now continue tinkering for Christmas. Delicious cappuccino with it and of course the Christmas music is already running at full speed here. Provided Frank isn't practicing at the piano 😉 .

Christmas tinkering:When do you start getting your house in the Christmas spirit?

It's an eternal battle with us. I first want to have December 5 behind me, but Frank has already started to itch at the end of November. As soon as the days get darker, he wants to get started with the artificial Christmas tree and 'his' Christmas village. And every year I hold back, until this year. Maybe it's because Christmas is increasingly taking over for us. The conviviality around this time - and the fact that Lotte no longer believes in Sinterklaas - means that we are getting into the Christmas spirit more and more and earlier. The room is already full of boxes of Christmas stuff, even before the holy night is over.

But besides decorating the Christmas tree and the Christmas village that De Man likes to display every year, I also like to go into Christmas in a more styled way. I like sleek with a cozy touch. A nice counterpoint to all the kitch of the Christmas village. As far as I'm concerned, we also put up a wooden Christmas tree, practically too, without all those needles. And last but not least… very environmentally conscious! But I lost that battle again this year.

Choose your battles is what they call it, my moment will come. Fortunately, Frank has no opinion about crafting for Christmas, so I can indulge in it in my own way. So with Daughter. He does have a strong mind of his own. Yes. Anyway, I've pulled out the necessary inspiration for you.

Do you also want to tinker with Christmas? 13 DIY ideas

1. Crafting a subtle Christmas star

Making a poinsettia for Christmas is what Lotte likes to do and I absolutely love this poinsettia. Found on KARWEI's home inspiration page. Complete with explanations that are easy to follow and not too difficult. I love that. With the green pine branches you can make a beautiful natural variant of it, but you can also cover it with glitter or with a light cord that works on battery.

2. Making a mini Christmas tree from paper

This mini Christmas tree made of paper is also very creative. And right up my alley when it comes to style. In addition, it is quite easy to make, although it does require some cutting. But hey, you want to craft for Christmas or not. And besides… that's what I have Daughter for.

  1. Cut (a lot of) squares from the newspaper, from large to small
  2. Take a flower pot and fill it with oasis (floral foam)
  3. Put a wooden pen in there
  4. Cross all the squares over the pen, starting with the largest
  5. Drave some moss over the floral foam and make a star at the top

3. Craft painting with deer

How cool is this one? I only want to make these for Christmas with buttons in the colors black, white, gray and green. But of course you can think of all kinds of variations on this. First I get my button jar to see what I still have in stock and I'll get the rest from here at the local sewing shop 😉 .

4. Make a snowman

Of course we will also make a snowman without snow. We actually do this every year, here you will find the explanation to make the snowman. If you also want to make snow yourself to create beautiful things, read my other blog about it.

5. Craft owls yourself for Christmas

You can make owls in all kinds of ways, but I think this one is very cute. And also fairly easy to make with a super nice result.

What do you need to craft these owls for Christmas?

  • Pine cones
  • Battery
  • Paper in white, black and orange

Make sure you have pinecones with the 'scales' well open. You put the cotton wool in those spaces. Cut and paste eyes and add a nose. Ready!

6. Crafting Olaf for some cozy lights

Found on Pinterest. To create some cozy light, you made these tea lights very quickly. What do you need?

  • Baking paper
  • Fine writer in 2 colours
  • glue

Cut the baking paper to the height intended for you. Draw some cute Olaf faces on it and then seal them with some glue. Put your 'Olaf' over a tea light and you have made your own mood lighting.

7. Craft a reindeer?

Admittedly, there isn't much to tinker with here, but it sure is cool. So much the better actually! Be creative, but don't lose hours. In fact, you're done in 10 minutes. This reindeer is stuck together with wasi tape. The wasi-tape has a nice Christmas-like color, I used gold glitter. Get it from Hema † What do you think?

Our walls have stucco, which makes it harder for the wasi tape to stick, but it will work. Just press a little harder.

8. Crafting Christmas trees

Would you like some nice decoration here and there? Crafting these Christmas trees is a breeze! We spotted them here.

What do you need?

  • Cork
  • Branches from a Christmas tree or garland
  • A little glue
  • Pliers (when you pick up twigs from a fake garland, for example)
  • Awl

I don't actually have to explain to you how you can craft this for Christmas, I think, put them together or use them solo. The simplicity is also super nice!

9. Painting peanuts for the Christmas tree

How cute are these capped peanuts? We think they are super cute. What you need is the following:

  • Paint
  • Iron wire
  • Pliers
  • Nice colored thread , some cotton wool and possibly a little bit of fabric (for scarf)
  • Peanuts

Twist the wire into the desired shape and stick it in the shelled peanuts as hands, ears and the like. Also make a ring with a stem for each capped peanut. Insert the stem into the peanut at the top so that you can thread a string through the ring.

Tip:You can find handy pliers for making rings and cutting iron wire cheap at the Xenos in a set of 3

10. Santa crafts for Christmas

With popsicle sticks (can be found cheaply at the Action) and some paint and cotton wool you can quickly make a lot of nice Santa Clauses. Would you also like to work with such a ball on his head or on his belt? Those are craft pompoms!

Online you will find a lot of craft pompoms here

11. Crafting with a flower pot

These earthenware flower pots are completely hip at the moment. If you still have one in your closet, you can turn it into a nice reindeer in no time at all with some paper, chenille thread, a pompom and eyes.

Chenille thread can often be found at Hema or here at Bol very cheap .

12. Making beautiful snowflakes for Christmas

I found these snowflakes that you can craft for Christmas at thebestideasforkids.com. There is also a very helpful video that you can watch. The little blue snowflakes are punched out with a die-cut machine. I also have these at home and Lotte and I use all those punched out objects (Christmas trees, snowflakes, deer, but also flowers and houses and so on) for our mixed media and scrap craft hours.

You can make really fun things with a die cut machine! More information about this can be found here.

13. Crafting with toilet rolls for Christmas

Of course you can also craft many fun things for Christmas with toilet rolls. As above the snowman, Santa and the reindeer. Super easy, quick to prepare and yet fun to make.

Do you have any other fun ideas for crafting in the dark days before Christmas? All ideas are welcome.

14. Making a paper Christmas star

Crafting a paper star for Christmas? It may seem a bit complicated, but it is actually very simple to make. The joke is that you make this poinsettia from baking paper that you crumple first. This gives this Christmas star a vintage look. You can find the DIY on ElsaRblog.

15. Brighten up pinecones for Christmas

Would you like to brighten up your Christmas tree or just put some nice cheerful branches in a vase? Then find some pinecones outside during a lovely autumn walk in the woods. Get a small bag of pompoms and glue and you can get started crafting this cool Christmas decoration.

The small pom poms from Baker Ross are handy for this and even available in cool fall colors!

Would you like to get started with some merrymaking for Christmas but you don't feel like really crafting? Colleague blogger Janske made a cool rainbow Christmas tree , maybe that's something for you?
