Hydrangea:9 tips for properly maintaining this sublime shrub!

How to prune hydrangeas?

It is essential to prune the hydrangea so that the plant retains the desired shape. Pruning in winter serves to balance its overall look. If you cut it before this period, the hydrangea may be affected by frost. The ideal time to prune your hydrangea is between the last two weeks of February or the first two of March.

To prune your hydrangea, cut no more than 30 cm. Beyond that, flowering will be hampered. It is advisable to prune from the end of the branch to the first pair of buds. Leave an inch or two between where you cut and the buds. Do not forget to remove dead wood and tired stems in addition to airing the center of the shrub.

When to cut dead hydrangea flowers?

When you spot wilted leaves tarnishing the beauty of your hydrangea, you can cut them off as they die. You don't have to wait for pruning season to remove them.

To cut the dead leaves from your hydrangea, simply use pruners to sever the stems above a pair of buds.
