How to make a tiling decoration?

When I redid my kitchen in order to give the room a little touch of modernity, with the wall painting, I had to completely replace the flooring. My choice fell on the tiles.

Why tiling?

At the time, even if I did not renovate the kitchen, I still had to change the floor. Indeed, in order to save money, I had let myself be tempted by vinyl. Sold at affordable prices, this coating is offered in many colors and patterns. Moreover, as vinyl was very fashionable at that time, it was very difficult for me to resist this decorative trend. And always in order to grab a few euros, I bought very poor quality vinyl.

Unfortunately, following numerous washes, not to mention the constant aggression of oil and water stains, the coating quickly lost its aesthetic appeal. Worse, as I opted for a non-slip model, the kitchen floor had become very slippery and therefore dangerous for the inhabitants of the house. Redecorating the room was an opportunity for me to remedy this situation. And for this time, it was no longer a question of choosing a material that I did not know. I would take the opportunity to create a bar in the kitchen.

I decided to bet on safe values, namely tiling. For good reason, very easy to maintain, this material is wonderfully resistant to wear, external aggressions, as well as shocks, including particularly falling objects. Only downside, unlike other coverings, the tiles get dirty very quickly. This is why it is necessary to avoid light tones such as white for example. Go to Reflex Boutique if you are looking for a very wide choice of tiles. Besides, to make sure that the floor covering is done according to the rules of the art, I even called on a professional for the laying of floor tiles.

Other types of kitchen coverings

I fell for the tiles because this coating can also be placed on the wall, but also act as a credenza. But that said, if you have your fill of tiles in your home, there are other equally interesting materials. For me, wood remains an excellent alternative to tiles. Provided of course that it is solid like ash, walnut, or oak. In addition, to resist heat, humidity and dirt, the surface of your kitchen floor must be rectified.

Otherwise, you can always orient yourself towards exotic species such as teak, ipe and padouk. Big disadvantage, this type of wood is very expensive, because count on average 50 to 100 euros per square meter. Otherwise, for owners looking for originality, I recommend natural stone. Both timeless and modern, this coating will infuse character and elegance into your kitchen. But here too, the main purchase barrier is its price, in addition to an annual treatment with water repellent. In addition, natural stone is rarely suitable for kitchens located upstairs due to its heavy weight.

But the floor covering in vogue at the moment is porcelain stoneware. Interior decorators no longer swear by this material, which was initially cheap, but above all available in a myriad of colors. And regarding its maintenance, hot soapy water will suffice. Finally, if your tastes and desires are more for soft coverings, try linoleum. It is ideal if you are a fan of ecological and renewable materials because lino is made from natural materials such as cork, linseed oil and wood flour.
