Potato, my choice

In front of the display of the village seed merchant, the choice is difficult; the potato in various varieties catches my eye; I opt for 3 varieties in small containers (25 tubers in the bag) of which I know nothing. The gardener is a tester!

My first package is a Nicola. Without S. I ate it once. Not easy to find at the fruit and vegetable market. I found the taste sublime which made me do two things; the first, finish the dish of boiled potato with a knob of butter (coconut I think, given the quantity tasted…), the second is to write down the name. I would add a third, remember it when I next visit my seed merchant.

Nicola , the resistant potato

It is a variety not susceptible to tuber mildew, fairly insensitive to leaf mildew. Apart from rotten springs, potato blight is not a big problem here (in the Gard). On the other hand, dry springs require regular watering. I furrow them, which avoids wetting the foliage and encouraging the spread of the disease. Harvest 115 to 145 days after planting

I didn't even know his name. Given as semi-early (90 – 120 days) it is the potato that I will take first, for summer salads; Very good resistance to cooking, which allows you to cut it into slices once cooked without having a puree in your hands. Not very susceptible to leaf blight, the tuber would be more susceptible; But can you have an attack of mildew on the tuber without having it on the foliage? Eh yes ! What a trickster this mildew!

THE early. 70 to 90 days after planting. Not very sensitive to mildew, it will be the direct competitor of Allians. The taste quality will be measured with choice palates!

I'll tell you about the results here. In previous years, I opted for Désirée, Chérie, Charlotte. These three beautiful ladies have never disappointed me. But this year I honor my seed merchant who had the good idea (or the audacity??) to offer customers old (?) varieties, or at least, not as common as Binje, Ratte and Vittelotte. , the purple potato, good indeed but with a very minimal yield.
