Make your own mini water garden

Creating a miniature water garden is ideal for bringing a breath of fresh air to your garden or balcony. In these vacation times, the creation of a miniature water garden will not only give you visual pleasure, but will also help you forget the strong heat due to this summer period.

If you already have a garden, this would be ideal; but if you don't have one, your mini water garden can be made on the balcony or even inside your house. So that you can create your small water point in accordance with the standards, here are some practical tips that may give you specific ideas on the steps to follow.

Set up a mini indoor water garden

You don't need a large space to make a miniature water garden. On the contrary, this little corner of water will only take up a tiny part of your living space to develop, while offering you a magnificent decor. For people with limited space, the equipment used will depend on the space available.

For this, a cup-style container, glazed terracotta pot or half-barrel made waterproof would be best, because these elements do not take up too much space . For each plant, prepare a small basket including a piece of geotextile and good garden soil. For the choice of plants, it is wise to install aquatic plants whose size will be adapted to the container. For example, you can opt for the combination of an oxygenating plant, a water lily whose flowers and leaves float on the surface, and a water hyacinth.

Regarding maintenance, this indoor water garden requires little care. Indeed, you just need to watch the water level in the container, control the expansion of the plants, as well as clean your water point.

Location is very important in building a mini water garden. Indeed, the latter requires a well-lit corner in partial shade, proximity to the house, and it must be sheltered from the north wind if possible. It is best to meet these criteria so that your little water spot can flourish properly. As for the material to be used, it would be preferable for the container to be wider, around 50 cm in diameter minimum, and deeper, 40 cm minimum.

You can opt for a half wooden barrel or a ceramic pot. For the container to be watertight, you can use a special filler such as liquid resin. Then place small culture baskets containing geotextile to accommodate the soil. For the choice of plants, we suggest the following composition:an oxygenating plant, a dwarf water lily, and a zebra rush or a water canna 150 to 180 cm high. Do not hesitate to call on a professional landscaper for the choice of substrates and plants!

The maintenance measures are identical to those of the indoor garden with the additional need to set up a winter protection system. To remedy the problem of mosquitoes and insects of all kinds, all you need to do is introduce one or two goldfish into the pond. By immersing the attacked parts for a while, the fish will feast and rid you of these unwanted guests.
