Recycling used plastic bottles is an ecological gesture to preserve the planet. The use of this type of accessory is both simple and practical to obtain an affordable mini greenhouse. You can use several one-liter soda bottles to grow a single plant with shallow roots. You could put your orchids, a cactus or a fern there, for example. To have a personalized touch, do not hesitate to use different shapes of bottles.

If you want to accommodate 2 to 3 seedlings, bet on 4-liter bottles with tubular shapes. Preferably choose two that have different widths. Cut them at the level of the part where the curves are up to their necks. Then place the upper part of the small bottle conversely in the lower part of the other larger bottle. To be able to glue the two pieces together, use hot glue. Put the soil first and then your plants. Leave a 2cm gap between the edges of the bottle and the potting soil so it doesn't overflow when you remove the lid from your mini greenhouse.

Bet on glass jars

If you have several old jars lying around the house, group them together to make a small terranium. This system consists of choosing a jar of different shape and size that fits with the plant you want to grow. Fill it with potting soil to plant your seedlings in.

In addition, an aquarium will also do the trick to obtain a terranium. Just fill it with fertilizer. You can use any shape:round, square or rectangle. But, in this case, consider a cover to protect your plants like a plastic film, for example. To improve water drainage, drill a few holes in the bottom of the container. However, you need the help of a glass blower to achieve this without breaking the aquarium.

Building a mini greenhouse with frames

This idea is reserved for a mini indoor greenhouse. You will need eight glass frames or equivalent glass plates of different sizes:four 13cm x 18cm frames, two 20cm x 25cm frames, and two 28cm x 36cm frames. Don't forget to sand them to remove unnecessary paint and texture.

Start by assembling the 28cm x 36cm frames with the 20cm x 25cm. The 28cm and 25cm edges should be properly aligned and the back of the 25cm frame should rest against the outer edge of the 28cm frame. Drilling holes from the biggest to the smallest. Fasten them securely with screws of a diameter compatible with the size of the holes. Your goal is to get a rectangle.

To make the roof, attach the rest of the 13cm x 18cm frames together. Tie them in pairs and then together to form a triangle roof. Install two hinges to easily open the greenhouse when you water your plants. Fix the latter with the main structure. To remove roof gaps, use special materials (foam, plywood, etc.).
