What size for a toilet? The perfect toilet!

Our toilets are used all day long. In addition to cleanliness, the size of this room is also a criterion to be taken into account. The more spacious it is, the better. But you do not always have the luxury of devoting 5m² to it. Nevertheless, there are minimum and standard dimensions so that your toilet does not become a cramped and impractical room. Air circulation is equally imperative.

1.4m²:the standard size of toilets

A typical toilet bowl is typically 70cm in length, with a width of 40cm, although larger sanitary ware is available. Be aware that wall-hung toilets require more space. To these dimensions are added the space for the legs. It is not pleasant to squat during commission. In general, 1m40 in length and a width of 1m are the minimum. With this space, you can add small furniture for magazines. A sink for washing hands is also possible. These dimensions concern both conventional toilets and dry toilets, which are gaining more and more followers.

Tile to ensure cleanliness

You can use materials such as wood or cement for covering floors and walls. Wood offers a warm touch while cement is less expensive. But the tile will always be easier to clean and disinfect. You can apply cleaning products more easily. The room will also be cooler, an appreciable quality especially since it is not necessarily very large.

Toilet requirements

The toilets are a relatively simple room that does not require furniture, but a shelf to put newspapers or other items is a plus for you and your guests; the main one being functionality. The paper holder is important. Of course, you can put the rolls of paper everywhere, on the ground, above the toilet, but that would not be practical, both for use and for cleaning. Install the paper holder at a safe distance but within easy reach, without impeding movement. The layout of the door should also be considered. An outward opening door is always best, especially for small spaces. A room length of at least 2m is necessary if you opt for an inward opening.

A small window will circulate the air more quickly. Otherwise, install an air extractor to get rid of bad smells. This way, they won't spread throughout your home. If you have a sink, consider installing a towel rack.

Decoration to improve comfort

You can increase the welcoming and aesthetic side of your toilet by providing some decorations, basic or more sophisticated according to your tastes and your means. The carpet under the bowl hides the drops on the floor but be careful to clean it often. Table and magazines will distract you during the time you spend there. Hand washbasins with towel are very popular for their practicality and health.

Today there are fully automated toilets, but the investment is quite different.
