What is IFTTT??

Before we get started, let's summarize what IFTTT, or “If This Then That” can do. The free service allows everyday users to create chains of statements, called "recipes," that are triggered based on changes in other web services like Gmail, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest.

How to do it

In this post, you will add new and existing recipes to your IFTTT account. To get started, you'll need to sign up for a free IFTTT account through the company's website or through Google Play's iTunes, IF app for iOS and Android.

The ideal way to add or create an IFTTT recipe is by using the IF app. Most likely, the recipe you are looking for has already been added. If not, creating a new recipe is relatively easy.

To find a recipe, go to the IF app and select the recipe icon at the top right of the screen. Near “My Recipes” Select the “+” button. This action brings up the "Suggested Services" screen. Find the service you would like to use. If you haven't connected a service to IFTTT yet, you'll need to do so by clicking the service's link, selecting Connect, and following the additional instructions. (You are often asked to validate the use of your credentials for the smart product.)

Once connected, you will see a list of “Popular Recipes” that use the service you just added. You can also select recipes from the “Recommended” and “Collections” tabs, or by using the “Search” icon at the top right of the screen.

To create a new recipe, go to the IF app and select the recipe icon at the top right of the screen. Then next to “My Recipes” select the “+” button, which brings up the “Suggested Services” screen. Select Create a recipe at the bottom of the screen.

From here you will create an IF / Then statement. Click the “+” after “Yes” and then select a service.

For example, select Date &Time under “Suggested Services.” On the next screen, tap Create a recipe. Under “Choose a trigger,” select “Every day on.” Choose 9 a.m., and then “Next.” Now select “+” after “Then” and select a service. Choose facebook Under “Choose an action,” select “Create a status message.”

On this next page, add text to the “status message” box and then select “Next.”

You will now see a summary of the recipe you just created. In this case, you'll see If every day at 9am, then create a status message on the (Your Name) timeline.” Program the recipe by hitting “Finish.”
