How to make a flower crown

Step 1

Make the base

Wrap the thick floral wire around your head to make a large circle for the base of the wreath. Make it really loose, when you start adding the flowers it will harden up. Create a loop at the back end, leaving it loose so you can tuck it in or out when you're done adding the flowers.

Step 2

Prepare the flowers

Cut the bottom stem of the flowers. If you're using real flowers, you won't want to make the floral crown until the morning of your event.

Add flowers to the base

Starting at the back, wrap the flower stems around the wire wreath circle. Work your way to center forward. If you are using fake flowers, twist the wire inside the flower stems around the circle of the wreath. Secure flowers with thin floral wire when needed (especially if you're using real flowers). Make sure all cable ends are facing outwards and not towards the center. You don't want these against your head when wearing the crown.

Continue adding flowers, working your way from both sides of the back toward the center front. Add as many flowers to make them as full or as simple as you like.

Squeeze, smooth and fasten the wires.

When you're done, you should have something like this. But you're not done yet, you'll want to cover those icky rear cables for a clean finish. Start by wrapping the thin floral wire around the stems so they are snug with nothing sticking out.

Wrap the floral tape over the wire to create a nice smooth finish. You can leave it as is or add ribbon ties on top of the ribbon so they flow down the back of the lucky lady wearing the crown.
