Tie Dye has so many possibilities. You can go full navy for a shibori look, rainbow for a throwback vibe, or how about fruit? Yes, with the right color patterns, colors, and paint, you can be wearing a kiwi by tomorrow.
Not just a kiwi, think citrus and watermelon too. Tie-dye is the basis for these fun, fruity tees, but the painted fabric with seed and slice details is what brings the look home.
SUPPLIES
Wear a pre-washed 100% cotton t-shirt. New clothing contains sizing, which means the dye won't hold. Decide on a fruit theme and that will guide your color choices. Brown and green for a kiwi or citrus colors for grapefruit and lemons.
Most fruits can be made using a simple circular rubber band joining technique. Use the placement of the rubber band as a guide when applying the fabric dye. For example, a watermelon would be red on one side of the rubber band and green on the other. Where the elastic band is placed will be white.
Allow stain to set 24 hours (or follow package directions). Rinse then wash. Then, using fabric paint, decide on the details of your fruit; fuzzy brown skin for a kiwi or yellow segments for lemon slices.
Let the fabric paint dry for 24 hours. All that's left to do is wear your fun color tie dye t-shirts. This is a great project for kids and adults alike.
