Touch added

For a really simple stocking, skip these steps below for embroidery floss around the edges of the stocking. But I do recommend it as it adds a nice extra touch and only takes about 30 minutes to complete.

Start your stitch

To start the blanket stitch, thread a needle with the embroidery floss and tie a knot at the end. Pull the embroidery thread along the edge seam of the stocking where you want to start. Insert the needle to the right of where you pulled the thread, about 1/2” away. Pull the yarn all the way through until you have a bit of yarn loop left. With the needle now at the back of your project, slide the needle through the thread of the yarn. Gently pull the needle up. That was just to start the stitch; Now all the following steps will be repeated steps. At the back of the project, insert the needle 1/2” to the right of the stitch.

Blanket sewing

Pull the needle through, but very loosely, leaving a small slack thread of yarn at the top. From the front of your project, take your needle and slide through the top of the yarn loop. Pull the needle through, gently pulling it taut. Now insert the needle into the back of your project 1/2" away from your last stitch. Pull the needle out and leave a little slack loop at the top once again. From the front of your project, take the needle and slide it through the top loop.
