To cut out the sweater pattern, place the top edge of the pattern piece along the bottom hem of your sweater. Cut the front and back of the sweater, around the pattern piece, giving it the front and back parts of the outside.

Sew the sweater

Place the front and back sweaters together, and sew around the outer edges. Do not sew the top edge. Just sew on the sides. Then turn the stocking to the right and gently press the sides with your finger.

Lay out the lining, snapping the pieces together, and sew around the side edges. Leave a 5" opening at the bottom of the foot for turning later.

Slide the liner around the outside of your outer sock. Match the side seams along the top edge. Pin together, and sew around the top edge. Thread it clockwise through the bottom opening of your foot liner stocking. Sew the opening closed and push the lining inside the stocking. Use your finger to push out all the inner edges.

Cut the rope

Once you've wound it enough, cut the yarn off the skein at the end. Now take the skein of yarn and tie a tie (not a knot) around the center of your cardboard yarn. Using your scissors, cut the ends of the thread at the end of each side of the cardboard.

Gently pull the cardboard out from the center of the pom pom, while keeping all of the yarn in place. Once the cardboard is out, pull on the tie and tie a knot.

Repeat the pom process to make your second pom. Then tie those two poms together with an 18" piece of yarn in the center. Take your poms, and where you tied the center knot loop, place the knot along the top back seam of your stocking. Sew a straight line back and forth over the yarn knot to secure in place on the stocking.
