Make Templates

Start by making sure your wine bottles are clean and dry, and that the labels and glue have been completely removed.

Make templates from electrical tape. Draw letters on top of the ribbon with a pen. Then carefully cut out your template with a craft knife. You can place the words "oil" and "vinegar" or create your own design.

Apply Stencil

Apply your tape template to the jar. With a cloth between your hands and the jar (so there are no fingerprints), smooth the tape template so there are no gaps or air bubbles. Use long strips of tape to divide areas and make lines on your jars.

Apply Cream

Apply the glass etching cream with a clean brush. Follow the instructions for use on the packaging. Once you have applied the etching cream, let it sit for about 5 minutes. Be patient and don't touch your project.

Wash off the cream

Follow the directions on the etching cream package to wash the cream out of the glass. When the glass is wet, it is difficult to see the etched area. Don't worry, if you followed the instructions on the etching cream, it worked fine!

Admire your work

Remove the stencil from the tape and wash the glass one more time with soap and water. Fill your bottles with oil and vinegar. Add the dumps. Your newly engraved wine bottles are ready to be reused.
