Haute Couture Paper Butterfly Necklaces

Materials and tools:

Checkered Paper Sewing Butterfly Kit
wax paper
tweezers
wire cutters
round nose pliers
toothpicks

Steps:

1. Cut three butterflies.

2. Using a brush and glue paper, glue two butterflies together.

3. Cut three eye pins 1" long. Use paper glue to attach one pin to each wing of a butterfly. The third pin is attached to the body, facing down. Allow to dry for several minutes.

4. Apply glue again, as in step 2, and glue the butterflies from step 2 to the butterfly from step 3. Let dry for 10 minutes. Rinse the brush clean of glue.

5. Apply a large jewel just below the head with jewel glue. Use your fingers to shape and curl the butterfly wings. Shape and curve the antenna and glue to each wing using paper glue. Let dry for several minutes.

6. Using a brush, apply three coats of paper stiffener to the front and back of the butterfly. Place on wax paper for 15 minutes to dry between each layer. Toothpicks are useful for cleaning excess hardener from butterfly wing clippings.

7. Cut eye pins into 1" and 1-1/2" lengths. Thread a gold bead, a faceted bead, and a second gold bead onto each pin. Attach pins to lower eye loop on butterfly; use pliers to open and close loop.

8. Measure and cut two pieces of 12" wire. Thread each through a wing bolt, one wing at a time. Pair the wire, attach a gold terry cord to both ends, and close with pliers.

9. Apply jewel glue to the ends of the wires and insert them into the tube clasps. Repeat on the other side.
