Cinder block planters

Materials and tools:

half cinder blocks
exterior painting
potting soil
floors
pretty rocks or other ornamentation

Steps:

1. Decide what shape your final planter will take. A simple stair design was used in this project.

2. Paint your blocks, using two layers. Be sure to paint the inside of the blocks and the outside surfaces.

3. Build your seeder. Arrange the lower level blocks so their openings face the front, with the upper level blocks opening up.

4. Fill the top opening blocks about 1/4 full with gravel, then add the potting soil and arrange the plants. Spread a little more gravel on the surface of the soil around the plants. Water gently so as not to dislodge any gravel or soil.

5. Fill in the front openings with stones or other embellishments of your choice; rocks painted white are used in this project to maintain the black and white theme of the planter.
